Last week my wife asked me to grab her computer. The first thing that I noticed was how hot it was. At first, I thought there was an issue with the MacBook. Then I noticed the cord was hot too. At closer inspection, the outer coating near the USB-C plug had worn through to the wires. This was a stark reminder how something you use everyday can become a fire hazard without anyone noticing. Please make sure all electrical cords are in good condition. There’s a reason that there’s a coating on the outside. You may feel the plug, socket, cord or your device overheat. If there are visible signs of excessive wear or damage to the plug, sockets or insulation replace it immediately. The deteriorated connections to the cords wires could cause a fire. Cord are so cheap these days that there;s no reason to even consider trying to fix them….just buy a new one. Here’s one of my favorites. Since I travel a lot it wraps a lot of plugs into one cord so you carry less.
